Can Clover devices accept EBT?

Yes, merchants can take EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) payments using the Register or Sale app.

Add EBT to a Merchant Account 

There are two ways to add EBT to a merchant account:

1. By sending in the 7 digit FNS# and the EBT pricing.
2. By filling out an EBT entitlement form.

Take EBT Payments

• Install the EBT app by searching "EBT"  in the More Tools app.
  
• Click on "Download".
• Once installed, add the EBT tender type by opening the Setup app and going to "Payments". 
• Click on "Tenders Accepted". 
• Press the line item labeled "EBT" until there is a green check mark next to it.

EBT payments can only be made while online. If the device is offline, it will not take EBT payments.

Take EBT payments with the Register app

There are two ways to take EBT benefit payments with the Register app:

1. Use the EBT tender type.

• Open the Register app.

• Add items to the order, then select Pay.

• Select EBT in the "Other" section as a form of payment.

• Choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit, then select

   Pay $X.XX.

• Swipe the EBT card. If the customer chooses SNAP Food Benefit, you can also select Manual Card Entry on your screen to manually enter the card number and expiration date. Then, select Continue.

• (Optional) If you’ve turned on cash back, the customer can select whether they want cash back and how much they want. If they want cash back, cash benefit will be used.

• On the customer-facing screen, ask the customer to enter the EBT PIN, then select Enter.

• Ask the customer to choose receipt options.

• Tap Done to finish.

2. Charge the amount and swipe the card

• Open the Register app.

• Add items to the order, then tap Pay.

• Tap Charge $X.XX on Connected Device.

• Swipe the EBT card.

• On the customer-facing screen, ask the customer to choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit.

• On the customer-facing screen, ask the customer to choose whether they want cash back and how much they want.

• Ask the customer to enter their EBT PIN, and then select Enter.

• Tap Done to finish.

Take EBT payments with the Sale app

There are two ways to take EBT payments with the Sale app:

1. Use the EBT tender type.

• Open the Sale app.

• Enter the transaction amount, then select EBT.

• On the customer-facing screen, choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit.

• Swipe the EBT card. If the customer chose SNAP Food Benefit, you can also select Manual Card Entry on your screen to manually enter the card number and expiration date. Then, select Continue.

• Ask the customer to enter their EBT PIN, and then select Enter.

• Tap Done to finish.

2. Charge the amount and swipe the card.

• Open the Sale app.

• Enter the transaction amount, then select Charge.

• Swipe the EBT card.

• On the customer-facing screen, choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit.

• Ask the customer to enter their EBT PIN, and then select Enter.

• Tap Done to finish.
