A: Third-party apps are still an option for merchants, but enabling the Clover Cash Discount feature is developed, owned, and supported by Clover. Your CBE can also discuss additional benefits to our ISOs.
Q: What should be the suggested shelf price if a merchant wants to net $100?
A: If a merchant would like to collect $100 after fees have been applied, merchant should set the shelf price to $104.17. Why? Because 4% taken off $104.17 would result in $100 net profit. If a merchant only increased their shelf price to $104 and the 4% is taken, the merchant would only net $99.84
Q: Can Cash Discount be applied to Debit, Checks, and EBT?
A: Cash discount will only be applied when cash tender is provided.
Q: Does Clover automatically increase the inventory on the POS?
A: Merchant may auto-update their inventory via the One-Click Inventory Update button on the Web Dashboard and Device, or they can manually update their inventory prices. Instructions are available for download on the Clover Cash Discount product page on the client resource site.
Q: Does the Cash Discount rate have to be a whole number?
A: AccessOne will allow rates in increments of .25 up to 5% for Retail, Wholesale, and FSP partners. Increments outside of .25 will receive error message (e.g.: 5.25%, 3.24%).
CoPilot will allow rates of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% only.
Q: Will there be different tabs for regular discounts as well?
A: Additional discounts, such as sales items and coupons, may be applied.
Q: How does this work with the Restaurant/tip environment? Will the tip be charged the CD?
A: Cash discount is applied to the final bill but not the tip.
Q: Does the merchant need to increase the price first and then provide cash discount?
A: It is recommended that merchants increase their inventory prices to net 100% of the sale and not lose money on processing fees. When Clover Cash Discount is enabled then the discount will auto-calculate and apply on the POS. No manual entry.
Q: Is there an additional fee in order to use Cash discount?
A: There is no additional fee to the ISO.
UPDATE: Beginning May 20, 2025, Clover will no longer charge the $19.95 monthly Cash Discount fee for new and existing merchants.
Q: When will existing Clover merchants be able to enable this themselves or opt-in themselves?
A: Merchant self-enrollment is available via the Clover device and Web Dashboard.
Q: What happens when a merchant no longer wants to participate in cash discount?
A: Clover Cash Discount can be disabled via AccessOne account maintenance, requested via CoPilot ticket, via 3270, or Merchant Manager. When completed, Clover Cash Discount will no longer be available for the merchant.
Q: Can we still process a split bill?
A: Yes.
Q: Is there a way to enable this on clover demo devices?
A: Yes, if the Demo Device is not set up with the Merchant Surcharge Program already.
Q: When enrolled in Clover Cash Discount, can the merchant only be on daily discount?
A: Daily or Monthly Discount is not directly correlated to the Cash Discount feature. If you choose to update the merchant discount pricing on the merchant account, normal processes should be followed pertaining to Daily/Monthly.
Q: How do we best implement this program for merchants that don’t use inventory?
A: If a merchant is not using inventory, merchant would need to enter the increased priced at the point of sale, so then if cash tender accepted, the amount will be discounted.
Q: How do we enable the Cash Discount program on CoPilot Omaha accounts?
A: Clover Cash Discount can be enabled on the Omaha platform via AccessOne boarding and account maintenance, as well as 3270. CoPilot does not support Clover Cash Discount on the Omaha platform.
Q: Is there an option for the merchant to accept the Terms and Conditions in the settings?
A: Terms and Conditions will be displayed on the merchant account within 72 hours of enrollment.
Q: How does Clover Cash Discount display on the merchant month-end statement?
A: Fiserv merchant month-end statements report credit card transaction activity and billing. The Fiserv merchant month-end statement does not today, nor has the statement been enhanced to report cash tender acceptance.
Q: Can Clover Cash Discount be applied to dual-platform merchants on BuyPass & Nashville?
A: Clover is supported on Nashville; therefore, Clover Cash Discount can be applied for all cash transactions ran through Nashville. Since Clover is not supported on BuyPass, cash discount will not be applied to any transactions ran through BuyPass.
